The original band broke up in 1971, though various personals members reassembled to record new material throughout the 70s and 80s. In some of the latter work, Randy California performed all the parts himself, except for cameo appearances by other members. In 1995 Spirit's popularity began to rise again with the release of Live at the La Paloma and California Blues.
